Tony served eight years in the United States Air Force as a law enforcement specialist including as NCOIC security police training at the USAF Academy CO. Tony then earned his Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering at NC State University in Raleigh, NC. He worked for 14 years at Nortel Networks in telecommunications working at the training center earning his certificate in instructional system design and working as an instructor, course designer and developer in optical networks, sales and marketing training, and inside sales operations.
Tony then joined his wife, Teri, to open their own insurance agency, Carolina Benefit Solutions, Inc., in Raleigh, NC, specializing in employer group benefits. Tony focused on operations, finance, and marketing. After selling their agency, Tony focused on developing courses for employers and employees on health savings accounts and a curriculum of courses on the emerging Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act for employers, employees, and individual marketplace plans.
Tony then focused on Medicare a few years ago creating BenefitCare.com and videos on Medicare basics, including Getting Medicare at Age 65 Explained, IRMAA Explained, Medicare Parts and Plans Explained, Medicare Costs Explained, and Why Healthcare Costs Less with Medicare.
Tony’s service in NAHU includes multiple leadership roles in the Triangle AHU in Raleigh, NC, as well as North Carolina AHU technology chair and media relations chair, NAHU Region 5 media relations chair, and NAHU media relations chair. Awards include a 2019 NAHU Distinguished Service Award, NAHU Presidential Service Award, NCAHU Fred Joyner Distinguished Service Award, five NAHU State Website of the Year Awards, and five NAHU Local Website of the Year Awards.
