Long Term Care

Public Policy Related to Long-Term Care
Long-Term Care insurance is a means of privately financing long-term care needs, such as extended nursing home care, assisted living facilities, or home care, all of which are usually not covered by Medicare. As the generation of baby boomers ages, an increasingly large number of people will require long-term care needs. Learn about policies the government is implementing in order to ensure that Americans receive the proper coverage.

Consumer Guide
Most people don't like to think about the prospect of needing long-term care. Either they are young, or if they are older, believe that Medicare covers long-term care. It turns out that many young people require long-term care services due to illness or accidents and Medicare does not cover long-term care for older Americans. Find out what you should know about finding a long-term care policy that is right for you.

Long-Term Care Partnerships
NAHU is pleased to have provided input and assistance to Congress to allow LTC partnerships. Legislation to expand NAHU believes that affordability for consumers purchasing long-term care policies should be expanded through public/private partnerships. The new law (Deficit Reduction Act) was signed by President Bush in February 2006 (P.L. 109-171). Residents in NY, IN, CT and CA have the ability to purchase private long-term care policies, and when the policies' benefits run out, they can go onto Medicaid without spending down all their personal assets.
